Here are some tips on how to winterize your vehicle.
Mountain Driving Tips
Fill Your Tank
Make sure your tank is at least half full. You will need it in case of traffic or to keep you warm in case you get stuck & need to wait for help.
Black Ice
If you encounter black ice, do not hit the brakes hard. Instead, let brake go and slowly pump the brakes until you slow to a stop.
Visibiity
Find the white lines on the road and follow those as they are easier to see. If visibility is extemele bad, find a turnout and pull over to wait for help.
Give Space
Drivers may need space to stop or pull over. Give more space than normal and do not tailgate.
Don't Use Hazard Lights Unless Needed
It's not recommended to use your lights for fog or snowfall. Use fog lights or low lights instead to help with visbility.
Drive at a Slow Speed
Drive as slow as needed to be safe, BUT also be sure to use the turnouts. If more than one person is following you closely - us the turnout to let them pass.
